SPRY LODGE BBQ POSTPONED DUE TO STORMS
W. Bro. Tim O'Rourke and Bro. Gord Grieve had done everything in their power to prepare for what was lining up to be the biggest (RSVP's for over 50 people) and best Spry Lodge Annual Family and Friends BBQ. However, the one thing that was out of their ability to control was the weather. For several days leading up to the BBQ, the weather forecast was bad, and on the day before the event, the forecast was 70% chance of Strong Storms. So for the safety of all concerned, W. Bro. O'Rourke, in consultation with W. Bro. Jeff Johnson, did the right thing and postponed the BBQ (new date to be determined). This was, no doubt, a hard decision to make, but the decision was vindicated the next day when bad storms did indeed roar throughout the region, along with Tornado warnings. The video clip below does not do the storm justice, as the hail was the size of large gravel, and coming down hard. Good call gents!
SPRY LODGE OPEN-HOUSE
In celebration of the 300th anniversary of U.G.L.E., Spry Lodge opened its doors to the public on Sunday June 3rd, 2017, (after the Rusty Mason event). Members of the lodge were on hand to great the visitors and to guide them through a tour of the lodge temple, anteroom and banquet hall whilst explaining the various aspects of Masonry. Pamphlets about Freemasonry were given to each visitor.
On Saturday, June 3rd, 2017, several of the Brethren, led by W. Bro. Johnson, convened at the Lodge for a Rusty Mason morning. This event was an informal gathering, intended to re-familiarize brethren with such things as the rituals, procedures and protocols that they may have forgotten, to enable these brethren to attend lodge again with comfort.
SPRY LODGE MAY 29TH REGULAR MEETING
The regular May Meeting of Spry Lodge was yet another busy night. On top of a large amount of regular meeting business, the W.M., W. Bro. Jeff Johnson, invested V.W. Bro. Greg Murphy as the Treasurer of the Lodge.
The W.M. and the D.D.G.M., R.W. Bro. Phillip J. Laundry, then presented Brothers Ron Henderson and Scott Henderson with pins and certificates recognizing their 25 years of service to the Craft.
The W.M. then conducted a ballot for initiation. At the conclusion of the general business, Bro Alex Scanlon proved his proficiency in the 1st degree, in exemplary manner, before being passed to the 2nd degree.
All of this, and the meeting adjourned before 9:30 pm, speaks volumes to the expert leadership of the W.M. and the proficiency of the Officers.
BEETON HONEY & GARDEN FESTIVAL MASONICH.I.P. CLINIC
Spry Lodge held a MasoniCh.I.P. Clinic for the 8th year in a row at the Beeton Honey and Garden Festival on Saturday May 27th, 2017. The MasoniCh.I.P. program provides parents and guardians with modern technology ID packages that, when provided to the authorities, can aid in the quick return of missing children. Spry Lodge, in conjunction with donations received from participating partners, Gower Gradall Services Inc. and Trailwood Transport Ltd., provide this service to the community and surrounding areas free of charge.
This event was yet another excellent day of fun interaction with the kids and their parents/guardians. It was also a great day of socializing with the many fine Masons, families and friends who volunteered to help run the clinic.
